It is World Wildlife Day 03rd March 2021

A day today dedicated specifically to wildlife. On this 3rd March is World Wildlife Day. This is annually and like any great day of great significance, the day is dedicated to celebrate, enjoy and respect wildlife all over the world. This year theme is to highlight too key role of forests in sustaining the livelihood of the local indigenous communities or local people living around.

The relation here is how the forest wildlife benefits to the rural communities that surrounds them. It is about extending trust, empathy and affording dignity to wildlife that the forest holds.

Today in Uganda, we live amid forests habitants to the most exciting wildlife but most remarkably is Bwindi Impenetrable forest, home to the greatest and special primates, the mountain gorillas. The highlights major tourist activities resulting from its wildlife including gorilla tracking in Uganda, Gorilla habituation, bird watching tours, cultural and village visit for travellers to enjoy a local life.

As we join the world to celebrate the value of forest ecosystems for wildlife and communities, Bwindi Forest like any other forest in Uganda has always ranked no.1 tourists destination spot attracting over 90% tourists to fall in love and track these gentle giants. Other key forests to celebrate and have directly improved the lives of the local people around include Kibale forests in Uganda, Nyungwe forests in Rwanda, the two are rich in wildlife with a similarity of supporting the highest population of Chimpanzees in Africa and other special local primates such as the Colobus monkeys.

The History of World Wildlife Day 

On 20 December 2013, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 3rd March, the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants.

World Wildlife Day has quickly become the most prominent global annual event dedicated to wildlife. On this day the world celebrates the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora as well as raising awareness of the various challenges faced by these species.

Information Note for Passengers Departing from Rwanda.

  • Travelers should monitor for MVD symptoms, including fever, severe headaches, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea, before departing from Rwanda and seek medical advice immediately if they experience these symptoms.
  • Expect routine temperature checks using Thermo-Scan Cameras and the use of hand sanitizing stations.
  • All passengers exiting the country will be asked to answer a short symptom-screening questionnaire with RBC staff to ensure their well-being and the safety of others. Alternatively, passengers can complete a declaration form here, download the QR code, and present it upon arrival at the airport.
