Chameleon Hill Lodge, situated between Mgahinga Gorilla Park  & Bwindi National Park in southwestern Uganda – you will find a place full of inspiration and enjoyment called Chameleon Hill Lodge.

Located on the shores of one of East Africa’s most beautiful lakes, Lake Mutanda, you will enjoy spectacular views across the lake with its islands and surrounding hills. In the backdrop the Virunga Volcanoes greet you. You have arrived. Take your time, sit back and relax in an environment, which you have never seen before. The “arty” design of the lodge has mainly been influenced by the location of the site itself.

The lodge and every single chalet are positioned in a way that the breathtaking views across the lake and volcanoes is unobstructed at all times. Situated on an altitude of just over 2.000m, it is the perfect location for safaris to Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks as well as exploring the Virunga Volcano mountain range. Most importantly – the perfect place for people looking for that ultimate “bucket list experience”: tracking the rare Mountain Gorillas. The Chameleon Hill Lodge

This exclusive, colorful and vibrant lodge enjoys spectacular views across Lake Mutanda with the Virunga Volcanoes as a magnificent backdrop.

Each chalet flaunts its own identity and color scheme along with high quality, handmade furnishings that boast a unique Euro-African style.

The lodge offers a special blend of comfort and relaxation, where attention to detail and personalized service are paramount. As well as being the perfect base to visit the mountain gorillas, one can also enjoy a trip on the hand built boat available for excursions.

If in need of a little pampering, their masseur is also on hand to spoil you.

The kitchen is famous for its mouth-watering food. Specialties include bread, slowly baked in our wood fired oven, homemade muesli with handpicked ingredients and the freshest fruits and vegetables from our very own organic garden.

The Ugandan roads can take their toll and after bumping around for a few days on safari many guests need time to lie back and unwind. Chameleon Hill provides plenty of comfy spots and peaceful places where guests can relax. From the wooden deck overlooking the lake to the veranda in your private little garden, there will always be space to put your feet up, unwind and relax.

Rooms

Chameleon Hill Lodge has 10 luxury chalets designed to provide guests with privacy and tranquility.

Each room has its own unique charm and character, with its own color scheme and private garden, they all share stunning views across the lake.

Each chalet is equipped with a modern en-suite bathroom and apparently the best showers in Uganda with a panorama window to enjoy the lake and volcanoes even when you shower.

We offer early morning tea or coffee brought to your room so you can take in the views sitting on your spacious veranda before going for breakfast, gorilla tracking or any of our other activities.

Dining, Lounge & Bar

The spacious dining area with the adjacent wooden deck on top of the hill, offers a bird’s eye view over the lake and beyond. The walls are decorated with colorful art and for those chilly evenings there is a romantic fireplace to make sure the ambiance is perfect.

Chameleon Hills’ reputation for delicious food has traveled far and wide; a fusion of different cultures, herbs and spices. Our team of chefs Moses & Eric are great at using the best local produce, mostly grown in our organic garden, to create fantastic dishes. Dinners are 3 courses. The starter is often a delicious fresh soup, e.g. cinnamon pumpkin or cream of mushroom, or Moses signature dish: chilly & honey egg duo, followed by a a hearty main dish. Some of the lodge favorites are charcoal roasted Ankole beef steak served with crispy parsley potatoes and mixed veggies. Or glazed chicken breasts served with Arabic rice and buttered vegetables. The grand finale could be chocolate mousse or sticky banana caramel scrumble for dessert.

Breakfasts are designed to set guests up for the day. There is always a selection of fresh fruit, fruit juice, homemade muesli & yogurt, pancakes with a hint of lemon zest, eggs of your choice and the full fry up with our wood-oven baked bread.

The kitchen can cater for any dietary requirements, be it vegetarian, gluten free, vegan or lactose intolerant. Just let us know any food you cannot eat or you dislike and we will prepare something to your taste.

Our lounge area with a stylish cement sofa, a soft couch and inviting armchairs spreads a sense of cosiness. As soon as the wood – we only use alien species like Eucalyptus – in the fireplace is lit and you bring back memories of your gorilla tracking experience earlier that day with a glass of wine in front of you: the world is just perfect.

Our bar is extremely well stocked so it is more than likely we can serve your favorite drink with a bowl of homemade nibbles. Our wine list boasts many South African wines and a few Australian and French.
