Wreckage from Juvenal Habyarimana’s presidential plane can still be seen where it was shot down – just over his garden wall. The perpetrators were never caught, but this act proved to be a rallying call for Hutu extremists and helped trigger the genocide. The museum is a short way east of the airport.

After you’ve learned about coffee agronomy, harvested ripe cherries, and tasted the sweet coffee fruit, you’ll de-pulp your harvest and learn how it’s processed to be ready for roasting. Unlike wine, coffee can’t be uncorked and enjoyed at the ready. The crucial last step is brewing, and it requires great care to bring forth the best flavors created during the growing, processing, and roasting production steps. Our expert baristas, who have worked in cafes as far away as San Francisco, California, will talk about the technicalities of brewing coffee, what attributes they look for in the final cup and guide you through pulling espresso shots, crafting latte art, and preparing coffee with different brewing methods.
Thousand Hills Distillery & Tour of the plant.
Founded in 2014 by two gentlemen with a love of fine whisky, stunning views, and a strong sense of pride in working with local communities, 1000 Hills Distillery was born. But like most great ideas, originally they thought of starting a vineyard, but lucky for us, they thought better!
To be honest, it’s a challenge to find high-quality ingredients, but one of the reasons we chose Rwanda in addition to the amazing resilience of the country is that we could source materials locally, thus supporting micro and small businesses.
Nyamirambo Women’s Centre / Guide Village Walking Tour.
This is the most popular offering from NWC. The walking tour begins at the Women’s Center with a traditional snack, a quick Kinyarwanda language lesson, and an introduction to the Center and its activities. It then weaves through Nyamirambo, one of Kigali’s oldest neighborhoods. Along the way guides lead participants into a women’s hairdressing salon where the adventurous type can get a free braid; into a family compound to pound cassava leaves; by two mosques and a lookout view over Kigali; and into a tailor shop to feel the fabrics you’ll otherwise see styled on the streets. The tour concludes with a traditional lunch made and served in the home of Aminatha, NWC’s best cook.
