Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Sanctuary.
Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch located in Nakasongola district is the proud home of the only wild white southern rhinos in Uganda. This is located at the edge of Murchison falls national park. Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is the only place where you will be able to see rhinos in the wild while you are in Uganda so as to increase your list of the Big 5 safari animals, thus Rhinos, Lions, Leopards, Buffaloes, and Elephants. Presently the sanctuary is home to more than twenty-two (22) southern white rhinos.
The Budongo forest.
Budogo forest is the biggest Mahogany forest found in the whole of East Africa as well as a habitat to the largest number of chimpanzees throughout Uganda. The major tourist sites within this forest are the Kaniyo Pabidi Ecotourism site, Busingiro Ecotourism site, and Kaniyo Pabidi Ecotourism site which are located at boundaries to Murchison Falls National Park and dominated by Mahogany and Iron-wood trees.
The Big Game animals.
The park is home to 76 species of mammals including four of the “Big Five”, with huge herds of buffaloes and elephants, well-camouflaged leopards that can be sited on a day game drive, and a healthy population of lions. It is also known for its giraffes, the park has got over 400 giraffes. Other animals include buffaloes bushbucks, Uganda Kobs, waterbucks and warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeest, hyenas, and several aquatic life. In Rwanda, you can do the big game safari in Akagera National Park.
Boat Cruise along the Nile in Murchison Falls Park.
Take a launch trip from Paraa to the falls (17km) and back takes about 3hours. A boat trip from Paraa to the Delta (28km) and back takes about 4-5 hours and from this, you can see a variety of animals. The boat trip is scheduled for 0900hr and 1400hr every day. This is among the best of Uganda safari highlights to Murchison Falls National Park, sight the hippos and crocodiles are in abundance, a variety of birds like ducks, bee-eaters, fish eagle, cormorants, and at times the rare shoebill.
