The launch of Kibale Lodge complements the already existing list of Volcanoes Safaris’ four Jungle (Great Ape) Lodges and will most likely provide extraordinary experiences across Uganda and Rwanda while allowing visitors to enjoy the spectacular Gorilla, Chimpanzee, as well as Wildlife of the Albertine Rift Valley region. Other Volcanoes Safari Lodges include Virunga Lodge (close to Volcanoes National Park), Bwindi Lodge (in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park), Kyambura Gorge Lodge (in Queen Elizabeth National Park) and Mount Gahinga Lodge (near Mount Gahinga National Park).
The newly constructed Kibale Lodge has 8 stunning Deluxe Bandas and a Villa. Three of these Bandas (Deluxe) will be opened by May 2024 while the rest will be fully operational by the end of 2024. Volcanoes Safaris is one of the few properties that ensures environmentally-friendly practices and for this reason, the Bandas were hand-built by the experienced construction team led by John Bosco Tukamuhabwa and Cyprien Serugero with support from the Head Carpenter Joseph Nsabimana as well as the Botanist Celine Ishimwe. The Lodge brings out the typical features of the special 150-acre site that is characterized by a rocky outcrop with breathtaking views of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains (dubbed the Mountains of the Moon), enjoyed from the main Lodge ridge that overlooks the West as well as the savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park, and the stunning Kazinga Channel to the south.
The Kibale Lodge area is fringed by the verdant homesteads of the dominant tribe (Batoro) who live in the Kabarole region as well as the beautiful and welcoming tropical climate. Some of the spectacular facilities at the Lodge are a swimming pool for visitors who are interesting in cooling off after a long day of chimpanzee tracking and the Bigodi wetland walk, a spa where a 50-minute complimentary massage per stay will be offered to all guests, and a sauna.
Accessibility to Kibale Lodge won’t be a challenge for guests because it is only an hour’s drive from Fort Portal Town, and just 45 minutes to one hour’s drive from Kasese airstrip, the main airstrip used by Kibale National Park visitors. Thanks to the Lodge’s incredible location, guests are able to connect to other Volcanoes safaris’ Lodges especially Kyambura Gorge and Bwindi Lodge. For chimpanzee tracking adventures, the accommodation facility is only half an hour’s drive from Kanyanchu Visitor Center, the starting point for these treks and other activities in Kibale National Park.
