Gorilla filming cost in Uganda

Gorilla filming cost in Uganda have been revised to enable more filming and creation of material for marketing. Gorilla filming is another strategy for promoting and developing tourism in Uganda gorilla National Parks as well as strengthening conservation.

Uganda is the ideal place for gorilla filming since it harbors half of the gorilla number in the whole world both in Bwindi Forests and Mgahinga National Parks in the South Western of Uganda.  With such great numbers of gorillas, destination Uganda becomes the best place to film gorillas in their natural home. Currently, there are 20 habituated Gorilla families  in Bwindi National Park and one family in Mgahinga National Park making them 21 in total hence Bwindi National Park is possibly good than Mgahinga National Park.BOOK NOW

Gorilla Sighting & Filming in Uganda

Recently, the Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced the new gorilla filming fees that started on July 1st 2020 and ends June 30th, 2022 which applies to all East African citizen and non-foreign resident, and both commercial and noncommercial filming such new filming rates also apply to all Uganda National Parks but on different fares.

The gorilla filming cost in Uganda are now charged at 40% cost of the product being filmed for photography and filming 50% of the product cost if the filming by drone and this goes to all other Uganda National Park. This explains further that each film crew member must pay 40% of the price of a gorilla permit each day and on the top of the gorilla permit price. This means that each film crew member will have to pay $700 for the normal to obtain a gorilla trekking permit and after top up $280 which is 40% of $700 (gorilla trek permit). This is now clear that if you have many crew members it means paying more for filming gorillas in either Bwindi forest or Mgahinga National Park.

NOTE:  The above gorilla filming prices are for one with the normal gorilla permit so anyone who prefers to spend more time filming mountain gorillas in Uganda will have to pay more, for example, you can go for 4 hours gorilla habituation experience which cost $1500 and top 40% with this it gives more time to spend with Ugandan gorillas, and from July 1st, 2022 the prices will reviewed again.

Policy on gorilla filming.

Visitors who are interested in gorilla filming Uganda must first sign a memorandum of understanding with Uganda Wildlife Authority to be in a position to obtain a gorilla filming permit. There is a range of policies governing the conduct of filming gorillas. Uganda Wildlife Authority is the top body in charge of gorilla tourism and specifically also manages mountain gorilla filming in Uganda.

Media cards are issued by the Uganda media center and the filming equipment must also be cleared at Entebbe International airport in Uganda if you’re coming from abroad.

Gorilla filming permits will be reviewed again on July 1st 2022 and the permits must be purchased through Uganda Wildlife Authority least 2 months advance due to permit availability issues. The standard commercial gorilla filming fees in Bwindi and Mgahinga parks is at USD 4,200 per hour while with the gorillas excluding the normal gorilla trekking permit fees. There’s is a 5 % fee for monitoring and research which is included in the cost of filming.

A Gorilla trekking permit costs it separately a fee of USD 700 per person. Gorilla filming fees depend on the number of people involved in the activity as per the guidelines of commercial filming and photography by Uganda Wildlife Authority and this applies to all Uganda’s National Park with different fares. All gorilla filming requests must be sent in at least 3 weeks before the actual filming date.

Information Note for Passengers Departing from Rwanda.
