Various athletes participated in Ironman 70.3 Rwanda and saw them on a 1.9km swim at the waterfront of Lake Kivu, a 90km bike course, and a multi-lap 21.1km run course that spans the shoreline of Lake Kivu.

Entire Rwanda was filled with lots of excitement from the local people to international guests and this has increased the popularity of the country as one of the safest destinations in Africa and the remarkable lace for tourists seeking luxury holidays, and experiences.

Ironman in Rwanda has the best moments for each participant and for the spectators watching the events. Eliezer Bigoreyiki the first Rwandan to cross the finish line with a total time of 04.22.24 and Ilya from Russia was the first male individual IRONMAN 70.3 Rwanda finisher! The first Rwandan woman to cross the finish line!  Agnes Musabyimana and Jeannette Uwambajimana made history as well during the Ironman in Rwanda show.

Rwanda is a lush, scenic landscape of majestic mountains: nowhere more so than the Virunga Volcanoes in the north-west, home to the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. Even without gorillas, Rwanda is a stunning destination. Lake Kivu, for example, has sublime inland beaches and perfect coves for discovery by canoe. The South-Western Parc National Nyungwe Forest is an epic rainforest (the largest in the region).

And the people are welcoming and warm, belying the horrific events here in the 1990s. But it’s the mountains of the north-west, in the Parc National des Volcans, that remains the biggest attraction. The Virunga Volcanoes – some active, some dormant – reach 15,000 feet and are home to elephants, buffalo, duikers … and 300 mountain gorillas in the bamboo forest on the upper slopes. This is the perfect location from which to experience one of life’s most unforgettable moments – tracking and observing the mesmerizing gorillas in one of Africa’s most beautiful, evocative settings.
