Latest Travel Updates for Tourists Arriving in Rwanda

Tourists arriving in Rwanda are welcome and the country is open for tourism. It has been almost two years since international travel restrictions were put in place to control the spread of COVIOD- 19. Rwanda suspended international flights from highly infected countries until July 2021, commercial flights were allowed to operate again at Kigali International Airport. BOOK NOW

Rwanda has frequently announced the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, making travel simpler, especially for tourists arriving in Rwanda. Find below are the latest travel updates for passengers arriving at Kigali International Airport.

– All tourists arriving in Rwanda must have a negative COVID-19 certificate. The only accepted test is a SARS-CoV 2 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) performed within 72 hours of departure (meaning travelers must be tested and get results within 3 days of their first flight). Other tests, such as Rapid Diagnostics Test (RDTs), are not accepted.

-For all tourists arriving in Rwanda, will be screened upon entry and take a second RT-PCR test on arrival. Sample collection will be conducted at the airport. The testing at the airport is at a fee of US$ 60.00 per person.

-Passengers arriving in Rwanda are still required to complete the passenger locator form before boarding their flight to Kigali, Rwanda.

-No more mandatory quarantine nights for passengers and tourists arriving in Rwanda. You are free to proceed to your next destination after the arrival testing has been conducted.

-All tourists seeking to do gorilla trekking in Rwanda or any other primate safari experience are required to present a valid PCR negative test result not exceeding 7hrs from sample collection.

-Face masks are required at all times while tracking primates and while in public places. Surgical masks are the only ones permitted during primate trekking in Rwanda.

– Frequent hand sanitizing and washing must continue as measures to control the spread of COVID -19.

-All travelers and tourists departing from Rwanda must test negative for COVID-19. The only accepted test is a SARS-CoV 2 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) performed within 72 hours before departure.

Information Note for Passengers Departing from Rwanda.

  • Travelers should monitor for MVD symptoms, including fever, severe headaches, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea, before departing from Rwanda and seek medical advice immediately if they experience these symptoms.
  • Expect routine temperature checks using Thermo-Scan Cameras and the use of hand sanitizing stations.
  • All passengers exiting the country will be asked to answer a short symptom-screening questionnaire with RBC staff to ensure their well-being and the safety of others. Alternatively, passengers can complete a declaration form here, download the QR code, and present it upon arrival at the airport.
