What You Need on Arriving and Departing Rwanda.

Arriving and departing Rwanda is now easy amid COVID- 19 pandemic, all tourism activities remain open and all tourists are well to explore this remarkable destination filled with primates and wildlife.

Here is a set of key important information that all passengers arriving and departing Rwanda must keep in the book, the last 15 to 18 months for the entire world have been extraordinary: we have never seen such a time before and hopefully we will never see this phase ever in our lives but travel will not stop. -Negative PCR test Certificate.

All travelers arriving in Rwanda must have a negative COVID-19 certificate. The only accepted test is a SARS-CoV 2 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) performed within 72 hours of departure (meaning travelers must be tested and get results within 3 days of their first flight).

We encourage visitors to especially note the guidelines for mask-wearing, physical distancing, hand sanitizing, negative COVID-19 test results, e-payment, and the requirement to use only authorized transportation from the airport to the designated hotel.

-Fill in a locator form
Passengers are also required to complete a Public Health Passenger Locator Form before arriving in Rwanda here: www.rbc.gov.rw/travel/. This a requirement before boarding a flight and must input include a PCR test certificate, passport copy, and the confirmation reservation of your hotel night in Kigali.

-Arrival second mandatory PCR test.
All travelers (visitors) arriving or transiting for up to 24 hours through Rwanda will be screened upon entry and take a second RT-PCR test on arrival. Sample collection is conducted at the airport upon arrival and waiting for the results will be at designated transit hotels.

-Mandatory Night in Kigali designated hotel.
All guests are required to book into one of the 24 designated hotels in Kigali as you wait for their COVID-19 test results. Some of the hotels include Kigali Marriott Hotel, Kigali Serena Hotel, Retreat Heaven Boutique, Radisson Blu Hotel, Lemigo hotel, The Nest Kigali among others.

-Mandatory PCR departure Test.

All travelers departing from Rwanda must test negative for COVID-19. The only accepted test is a SARS-CoV 2 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) performed within 72 hours before departure. Other tests, such as Rapid Diagnostics Test (RDTs), are not accepted. Tests can be done at your resort or to any local COVID center around you. The cost of the test is USD 60.

I think what we have truly witnessed is a world without any playbook and it is time to travel and book our gorilla safaris to Rwanda again. Information Note for Passengers Departing from Rwanda.

  • Travelers should monitor for MVD symptoms, including fever, severe headaches, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea, before departing from Rwanda and seek medical advice immediately if they experience these symptoms.
  • Expect routine temperature checks using Thermo-Scan Cameras and the use of hand sanitizing stations.
  • All passengers exiting the country will be asked to answer a short symptom-screening questionnaire with RBC staff to ensure their well-being and the safety of others. Alternatively, passengers can complete a declaration form here, download the QR code, and present it upon arrival at the airport.
